Great honeymoons, like great marriages, are comprised of compromise, joy and togetherness. Sure, honeymoons are a bit more idealistic and dreamy, but romance doesn’t always have to include champagne, candlelit suppers and rose petals scattered on silken sheets (although those sound fantastic, too). Keep in mind that equipment rentals for sports-related activities--along with lessons--are almost always available. Remember, too, to book ahead; I’d even go so far as to book a dinner reservation well in advance, particularly if it’s a very popular restaurant. So, here’s my short list of some entertaining things to do that are widely available at various popular honeymoon destinations.
Hot air balloon rides Hiking and nature tours Helicopter tours Scuba diving and snorkeling Parasailing, hang-gliding, windsurfing Surfing rentals and lessons Garden, gallery and museum tours Historic sites Wine, scotch or food tasting Antiquing Visits to spas and hot springs (His and Hers massages and mud baths are often available) Craft demonstrations (glass blowing, ceramics, jewelry design, woodworking, etc.) Sporting events and clinics Day and sunset sails, dinners and tours Kayak (or catamaran) rentals and lessons Day train trips Amusement parks Fine dining, local cuisine, blues clubs, picnics, nightclubs, concerts Bike and horseback riding Motorcycle or sports car rentals Stargazing expeditions and planetariums (spectacular on the Big Island of Hawaii) Rollerblading, ice skating Cross-country skiing If you’re going to Hawaii, be sure to arrange for flower leis, go to a luau, see Polynesian dance shows. And, no matter where you roam, there’s almost always shopping! Check with your travel agent, resort, or the local tourist bureau or chamber of commerce of your destination.
