August 27, 2004, Newsletter Issue #16: More Packing!

Tip of the Week

If you’re going on an adventure honeymoon (diving, safari, etc.), you’ll need some specific gear, and might prefer duffel bags (with locks) and backpacks. Again, check with your airlines for their rules and recommendations regarding your particular items. Also, if you’ll be lugging a backpack or other bag around, pack it a few days in advance to test how heavy it will be. Chances are, you can eliminate an item or two, save your back and get along just fine.

If you have yet to buy the clothes you’ll be packing for your honeymoon, consider choosing just a couple of colors that blend well together. That way, you’ll be able to mix and match separates and come up with lots of different outfits. I mostly stick with one color, plus black and white (black is so forgiving in every way) because both work in casual or sophisticated circumstances, but you might replace them with khaki, navy, icy pink--whatever works.

When actually packing your clothes, be sure zippers and buttons are done up, collars and pockets are in place. It’ll spare you from wrinkle removal later. And, if you have the patience, make a list of everything you plan to pack, checking off the items as you add them to your bags. The list--updated with any souvenirs you purchase--will be handy when you check out of paradise and head for home.

Unless you’re going to an all-inclusive or luxury resort, you might want to take along a couple of plastic bags for dirty laundry, along with a small box of laundry detergent. If you’re going abroad (or to Quebec or Mexico), you should take a small phrase book or English/foreign language dictionary and a pen and small notebook to mark down key words, addresses and denominations of cash you’ll be needing to remember during your trip. Speaking of cash, a money belt is a great idea, particularly if you plan to be sightseeing in a city, not to mention traveler’s checks. If you’re going sailing, on safari or hiking, pack a small pair of binoculars.

If you can’t figure out what to take along on your unique destination, just drop me a line at Honeymoon.LifeTips.com and I’ll try to help. Next week, I’ll touch on what special items you might need for particular destinations. Until then, keep dreaming--but start packing!

Yours for TheBigDay,

Jill
